Moffat tops ’Dogs using hot shooting
The Palisade High School boys basketball team ran into a hot-shooting team on Saturday.
The Bulldogs fell 82-46 to a Moffat County team that had 10 players score, four in double figures.
Palisade (0-12, 0-4 Western Slope League) couldn’t keep up the offensive pace and allowed
Moffat County to score more than 20 points in three quarters.
“We played hard and didn’t give up,” Palisade coach Steve Phillips said. “It is still a learning process.”
Palisade was led by Jeremy Hayden and John Hyde who both finished with 11 points. Chayton Owens led the way for Moffat County with 22 points. Collin Jackson added 13 points including two of the Bulldogs’ six 3-pointers on the night.
The Palisade girls (1-12, 1-3 WSL) couldn’t make it two wins in a row. The Bulldogs lost 45-36 to Moffat County.
Palisade was led by Holly Odneal, who had 17 points. Sarah Hays finished with 11.
Palisade/Central finished third at the Tiger Invite in Summit with a team score of 51. Colorado Academy won the meet with 125 points.
The WarDogs had a successful day, finishing with four team records and 25 personal-best times.
Teddi Hayes won the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.91 and Sadie Patton won the 50 freestyle in 28.35.
“They are progressing quite well,” WarDogs coach Steve Weir said. “We have three weeks left and hopefully we’re swimming best at league championships.”
Grand Junction also attended the meet, finishing fourth at 46 team points. The Tigers’ Kelsey Schlagel finished first in the 200 IM (2:28.43) and the 100 breatstroke (1:14.99).
• Fruita Monument was at a meet with Delta and had a solid day with Kassia Plsek finishing first in the 200 IM at 2:35.56. Jessica Fischer took first in the 500 freestyle at 5:52.58.
Grand Junction placed sixth in the Green River (Wyo.) dual tournament in Wyoming, winning three duals.
Dylon Thompson (103 pounds), Anthony Guillen (119) and Dylan Reed (215) all went 6-1 during the two-day tournament. Jesse Hoffschneider (135) went 5-2.
