Bulldogs rout Eagle Valley behind Riddle and Maestas

Isaac Maestas had a touchdown reception and two TD runs to go with a three-TD performance from P.D. Riddle, helping Palisade roll to a 49-0 victory over Eagle Valley on Friday in Gypsum.

Maestas had a pair of 5-yard runs and a 7-yard TD reception from Riddle, who ran for scores of 3 and 51 yards. Tanner Pratt added a 54-yard touchdown run for the sixth-ranked Bulldogs (6-1, 2-0 Class 3A Western Slope Conference).

Paonia 40, Olathe 10: The win by the Eagles (7-0, 3-0 WSC) sets up a 1A Western Slope Conference showdown with Meeker next Friday. Olathe (3-4, 0-3 WSC) moved down to Class 1A this season.

Meeker 42, Cedaredge 14: The Cowboys (7-0, 3-0 WSC) have scored 259 points this season. Cedaredge (5-2, 1-2 WSC) sits in fourth place in the conference standings.

Grand Valley 36, Hotchkiss 19: The Cardinals (5-2, 2-1 1A WSC) are in third place in the WSC after their win at Hotchkiss (3-4, 0-3 WSC).


Players in the two remaining divisions for Grand Junction played well in the first round of playbacks at the Class 5A state tennis tournament.

Luke Aubert won his first playback match over Henry Vice of Overland, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles. But the Grand Junction sophomore saw his tournament come to an end with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Cherry Creek’s Alex Gordon.

At No. 1 doubles, Matt Miller and Ryan Bowen won their first playback match, 6-2, 6-1, over Daniel Auerbach and Carson Sexton of ThunderRidge. The Grand Junction seniors followed with a three-set loss in the second playback round to Tyrone Braxton/Eric Dellavalle of Denver East, falling 0-6 6-4, 6-1.
