Bulldogs’ Smith wins Summit Invite
Palisade High School senior Kyler Smith shot a 75 and won a scorecard playoff for medalist honors at the Summit Invitational boys golf tournament Thursday.
Grant Rogers of Boulder also shot a 75 at the par-72 Keystone Ranch Golf Course. Palisade’s Skyler Miller shot a 76 and tied for third, while T.J. Tway shot a 90 for the Bulldogs, who placed fourth as a team.
The Central High School volleyball team swept Glenwood Springs 25-22, 25-23, 25-22 in a nonconference match Thursday. Rayleigh Norton and Taylor Head led the Warriors (2-0) with five kills each. Norton also had five aces and nine assists. Mariah Garcia led the team with 28 digs.
The Grand Junction High School boys tennis team swept Aspen 7-0 in a nonconference dual Thursday morning, winning every match in two sets.
Air Academy 4, Grand Junction 3: Air Academy swept the Tigers in doubles for a 4-3 victory in Grand Junction’s second nonconference dual Thursday The loss was the first of the season for Grand Junction (3-1).
Kenzi DeCrow hit two home runs for Fruita Monument in an 8-7 loss to Castle View in nonconference softball Thursday.
The Wildcats scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead, but they gave up a three-run, walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Fruita dropped to 6-2 with both of its losses coming by one run. Jenni Sneddon pitched a complete game for the Wildcats, and Mariaha O’Dell went 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI.
Marques Combs scored Palisade’s lone goal Thursday as the Bulldogs lost 9-1 to Battle Mountain. Palisade goalkeeper Conner Carey made 18 saves for the Bulldogs (2-1).
