Bulldogs slip past Rifle
The Palisade High School softball team earned its second one-run victory over Rifle in eight days Thursday as the Bulldogs defeated the Bears 3-2 in Rifle.
Palisade scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Both teams scored one run in the seventh before Palisade ended the Bears’ threat.
Shelby Hanson pitched a two-hit, complete-game victory for Palisade (13-5-1, 4-2 Western Slope League).
Regan Van Noy had Palisade’s only extra-base hit, a double.
Alisha Rodebaugh took the loss for Rifle, despite giving up only three hits.
The victory ended Palisade’s regular season on a five-game winning streak in which it outscored its opponents 69-6.
Delta won the WSL title with Palisade finishing second.
Palisade claimed its first Western Slope League victory of the season with a 3-2 defeat of Rifle at the Peach Bowl.
After a scoreless first half, Daniel Jaramillo scored two goals and Gabe Porras another to give the Bulldogs (2-9-1, 1-7-1 WSL) the victory. Porras assisted on Jaramillo’s two goals.
Palisade’s lone tie on the season came three weeks ago at Rifle.
Palisade outshot the Bears 29-8, with Rosalia Ornelas recording two saves in goal and Connor Carey coming on in relief to save one shot.
The Bulldogs travel to Steamboat Springs and Moffat County this weekend.
Grand Junction overcame a 3-1 halftime deficit in Craig to defeat Moffat County 4-3.
Brendan Ryan scored a hat trick for the Tigers and Tim Hofer added the other Grand Junction goal.
It was only the third time this season the Tigers have given up three goals.
Grand Junction resumes SWL play next Tuesday against Fruita Monument at Walker Field.
