Casillas finishes second for Mesa women in RMAC golf championships
Kristina Casillas shot her second straight round of 76 on Tuesday to finish second in the RMAC women’s golf championships at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
Casillas led the Mavericks to third place in the team standings. The Mavericks cut eight strokes off Monday’s score but couldn’t catch Montana State Billings or Western New Mexico, which finished 1-2. Billings finished at 638, Western New Mexico at 644 and Mesa State 648.
The Mavericks won the regular-season RMAC championship by one point over Montana State Billings.
Jessica Berve tied for seventh at 158 after a second-round 77 and Michelle Stripp tied for 12th at 167. Jennifer Hilts tied for 19th at 171 and Afton Balling tied for 23rd at 173. Glynnis Price of Western New Mexico won the individual championship with a 148.
Farmer’s 14th top showing for Mesa men
Mesa State junior Eric Farmer finished 14th in the RMAC men’s golf championship Tuesday at Poston Butte Golf Course in Florence, Ariz., with a final-round 74, giving him a three-round score of 225.
As a team, the Mavericks tied for sixth with Colorado School of Mines with a score of 917. Western New Mexico won the title by four strokes over CU-Colorado Springs, carding a 288 in the final round for an 873 total score. CU-Colorado Springs, which won the regular-season title, finished at 297 for an 877.
Brandon Bingaman shot a 76 to finish tied for 24th with a 230, Calen Hoppe placed 26th at 231 after a final-round 77, John Savage tied for 38th with a 78 for a 237 final score and Adam Golesh shot a 79 in the final round to finish tied for 42nd at 241.
