Catching Up, June 28

Editor’s note: Each week this summer, The Daily Sentinel will catch up with some of the 2012 Grand Junction Rockies who have moved up the organizational ladder, updating how their seasons are going. To check on your favorite former GJ Rockies player, go to and click on the “Roster” link, then go to “Minor League Affiliates.”

Max White, OF, Class A Asheville

One of the youngest players on last year’s team, White, who won’t turn 20 until October, stayed in extended spring training when the minor league season began.

Some expected White to return to Grand Junction to get more at-bats and some seasoning, or perhaps go to short-season Class A ball at Tri-City in Pasco, Wash. However, when David Dahl tore his hamstring in May, Asheville needed an outfielder, so White was sent to the Carolina League.

He’s made the most of the chance, hitting .244 in 25 games through Friday, including a 3-for-4 night with two RBI on June 14, 364 days after he signed his professional contract with the Rockies.

He has one home run, five doubles and 11 RBI for the Tourists. He’s hit a bit of a slump, going only 1 for 12 in his past three games before Saturday’s game against Augusta.

Ryan Warner, P, Class A Tri-City: The Colorado Springs product is 0-1 in three starts for the Dust Devils with a 5.87 ERA.

Warner had his best outing of the season Thursday against Everett. He threw five innings, allowing two runs, one earned, with three strikeouts and only one walk. He dropped his ERA nearly two full points.

Jayson Aquino, P, Class A Tri-City: The No. 11 prospect in the Rockies’ organization is 0-1 in three starts, with a 3.12 ERA. On June 25 against Everett, Aquino threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits, with three strikeouts and no walks. He’s scheduled to pitch today against Vancouver.

Juan Ciriaco, IF, Class A Asheville: The second baseman is hitting .291 for the Tourists with 12 doubles, one triple, one home run and 13 RBI in 55 games. He’s stolen 32 bases in 40 attempts.
