Central gets shutout of Texas team in Arizona

Ryan McIvor threw five scoreless innings and Michael Price struck out three in the final two innings of Central’s 5-0 win over Bowie, Texas in Tolleson, Ariz. on Thursday.

“With teams out of Texas, you never know what you’re going to get,” Central coach Chuck Yost said. “Ryan did a real good job getting on top of hitters and throwing strikes.”

McIvor allowed two hits.

The game was tied 0-0 in the sixth inning when Warriors first baseman Robert Chandler got a leadoff single to spark a four-run inning for Central (4-0).

Price also went 1 for 3 with two RBI for the Warriors.

Piedra Vista 4, Fruita Monument 3: Fruita Monument (2-2) could not turn a double play in the bottom of the seventh inning and the winning run came home in a loss to Piedra Vista in the Piedra Vista Tournament in Farmington, N.M.

“We had the double play and we didn’t get the call,” Fruita coach Ray McLennan said. “I thought the kid was out. But it was a good high school baseball game.”

Wildcats catcher Evan McDermott hit a solo home run in the fourth inning of the wooden-bat tournament.

Fruita plays Valencia today at 9 a.m.
