Central girls pick up first win of the season

The Central High School girls basketball team bounced back from losses in its first two games to pick up its first win of the season.

The Warriors (1-2) held Colorado Springs Christian to six points in the second half to win 35-18 in the Palmer Tournament in Monument.

Taryn Smith led the Warriors with 13 points. Dakota Brody added six points and eight rebounds.

Grand Junction 54, Fountain-Ft. Carson 21: The Tigers completed a sweep in the Pueblo West Tournament.

Grand Junction (3-0) built a 30-12 lead at halftime and pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Sarah Wilkinson led the Tigers with 11 points and Sydni Brandon added 10.

Regis Jesuit 78, Fruita Monument 23: The fourth-ranked Raiders were too much for Fruita (1-1).

Regis took a 19-4 lead and never looked back. Sam Parks led the Wildcats with nine points.

Swimming & Diving

Taylor Kidd won the 50-yard freestyle and took second in the 100 breaststroke to lead the Grand Junction Tigers in the Cortez Invitational.

Grand Junction teammate Karina Silva placed second in the 200 individual medley and second in the 100 butterfly.

Katherine McConnell led Fruita Monument with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle. Kailey Shabelski placed second in the same event.
