Central grad Duffy garners Big Sky softball honor
University of Northern Colorado first baseman Mikayla Duffy, a Central High School alumna, was selected to the first team of the All-Big Sky Conference softball team, which was released Wednesday.
The honor comes on the heels of a month in which Duffy was a regular honoree among the Big Sky’s athletes of the week, receiving recognition April 14, April 28 and May 5.
In winning the May 5 award, Duffy hit .556 and turned in a clutch-hitting performance in a win over Southern Utah University. She hit a solo home run to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh, then singled to score the winning run in extra innings.
The previous week, she went 11 for 14 and tied a school record with seven RBI in one game, including a grand slam. She finished the week with 15 RBI.
For the April 14 week, she hit .556 and had 10 RBI.
Duffy, a junior, has been near the top of the individual statistical rankings in the Big Sky Conference all season. She leads the conference in doubles, and ranks third in batting average, hits and RBI.
The Bears, who already clinched a postseason berth, complete their regular season with a doubleheader today.
Duffy earned second-team all-conference a year ago.
