Central’s Duffy selected player of the year in Southwestern League
Mikayla Duffy is the Southwestern League player of the year after leading Central to the Class 5A state tournament for a fourth consecutive year.
The senior left-handed pitcher was 13-2 with a 2.02 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 90 innings pitched. She led the team with a .698 batting average, 49 RBI and tied with Danielle Romine with 12 home runs.
Fruita Monument coach Jamie Dunn was selected coach of the year after leading the Wildcats (21-3) to a share of the Southwestern League title and to the state semifinals last weekend.
The Wildcats had five first-team selections and a second-team pick. Five Central players made the first team.
Grand Junction had two first-team picks and two second-team players. Montrose had two first-team players and one second team.
