Central’s Kame racks up another basketball honor
Central High School’s Amy Kame never had too many off-days in her high school basketball career.
The Denver Post recognized that Monday when it realized its All-State listings.
Kame was selected to the All-Colorado team and the Class 5A first team.
Kame lost out on Player of the Year to Denver East’s Shae Kelley.
Regardless, the All-State selection adds another postseason honor to a very long list for the University of San Diego signee. Kame was already selected first-team All-Southwestern League for the fourth straight season and earned her first nod as SWL Player of the Year.
Kame played in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports all-state game, along with a third straight year in The Show.
In 5A, Grand Junction’s Jamie Derrieux earned honorable mention.
The Paonia girls basketball team was honored for winning the state championship, as Scott Rienks was selected coach of the year. Grayson Pipher, Johanna Reed and Rienks’ daughter Jordyn were both named first team.
Other Western Slope girls players selected as honorable mention are Montrose’s Hanna Bowden and Kaylee Walker, Rifle’s Courtney Cordova, Olathe’s Emily Brummitt and Morgan Stansberry, Coal Ridge’s Tori Verdeick and Grand Valley’s Erin Vanderpool. Dove Creek’s Sonja Strong was selected 1A second team.
On the boys side, SWL player of the year Drew Bridges was selected honorable mention in 5A. Palisade’s Jeremy Hayden got the same honor in 4A.
Aspen’s Andrew Papenfus was named to the 3A first team.
Western Slope players who earned honorable mention honors included Montrose’s Shad Jensen, Coal Ridge’s Andy Smedra, Hotchkiss’s Steven Floyd, Meeker’s Mitch Jacob and Hayden’s Greg Medvesk.
