Chassee’s hat trick lifts Fruita to win
Freshman Nick Chassee had three goals and Tanner McKenzie scored twice as the Fruita Monument High School boys lacrosse team won at Durango, 9-1 on Friday.
“That was amazing,” Fruita coach Mark Young said. “Before the game I said, ‘OK, Nick. This is your first game. I’m ready for you to score big points today.’ And sure enough, he turned around and scored that hat trick.”
Fruita is 3-0.
Grand Junction 12, Telluride 3: Luke Dohm scored four goals as Grand Junction (1-2) defeated Telluride.
Kolton Flick had six saves for Grand Junction.
Central 14, Montezuma-Cortez 8: Pinch-hitter Jacob Rubalcaba hit a solo home run as Central came back from a 3-2 deficit to defeat Cortez.
Catcher Kyle Serrano’s also had big games for the Warriors, going 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, and Brett Serrano went 3 for 4 with two RBI.
Central won despite committing 10 errors.
Durango 5, Central 0: Central managed only two shots on goal in a loss at Durango.
