It really wouldn’t matter who we’re playing, you’ve got to take care of the football, control the line of scrimmage and keep them from making big plays.”

Coach Lemon says:

On Limon, whom Hotchkiss lost to on the road, 35-28, three years ago in the state quarterfinals: “It is exciting. We played them three years ago, had a chance of beating them, and so we’re using that as motivation again.”

Coach O’Dwyer says:

Comparing this season’s team to some of the Badgers’ dynasty teams: “We’re probably not as deep as some of those teams we had in the mid-2000s. Like a lot of small farming and ranching communities on the eastern plains, our school is getting smaller. Our numbers are down from what they used to be. We’ll suit up about 32 kids.”

Coach Jones says

About Cedaredge: “I’ve just seen what I’ve seen in film. ... I think they’re a pretty physical team, and from what I’ve heard they run that spread-style offense and they run just as effectively as they pass, and that will wear you down. We can’t allow big plays.”

Coach Milholland says

On getting hyped up during playoffs: “I get nervous and get to thinking too much. And I mean, it’s football season — I love this stuff. You’re thinking about it all the time, and it’s just: What can you do to make sure these kids have every opportunity to be successful?”
