CMU’s Prater ties for second

Colin Prater tied for second place in the RMAC men’s golf championships Tuesday in Goodyear, Ariz.

The Colorado Mesa freshman scored an even-par 216 in three rounds and finished two strokes behind David Metz of Western New Mexico.

The Mavericks placed fourth as a team with 895. Western New Mexico won the team title with 878.

Mesa’s Trevor McKune tied for 10th with 223. Adam Griffith was 12th with 224.

 

Women’s Golf

Swaney fifth in RMAC tourney

 

Sara Swaney placed fifth to lead Colorado Mesa to a second-place finish in the RMAC women’s golf championships in Goodyear, Ariz.

The sophomore scored 155 in two rounds and finished three strokes behind co-champions Katrina Mendez of Colorado Christian and Julie Sanchez of CSU-Pueblo.

The Mavs were second with a score of 636. CSU-Pueblo won the team title with 621. Mesa’s Loren Forney placed 11th with 158 and Taylor Walters tied for 12th at 160.

 

College Baseball

Garcia wins conference honor

 

Colorado Mesa’s Derrick Garcia hit .714 with a double and 10 RBI last weekend to earn the RMAC player of the week award. The junior second baseman slugged .786 and had an on-base percentage of .750.

The Mavericks (31-8) moved up to 14th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll. They play a four-game series this weekend at Regis.
