Mavericks split doubleheader with Regis

Regis rallied to defeat 14th-ranked Colorado Mesa 10-9 to split an RMAC doubleheader on Saturday in Denver.

Ty Overboe hit a three-run home run to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh and Tony Piazza singled home the winning run in the second game. Mesa’s Garrett Carpenter took the loss in relief.

The Mavericks (34-9, 28-6 RMAC) built a 6-1 lead behind a Austin Kaiser two-run home run and a Jake Druce three-run home run. Kaiser was 5 for 10 with three RBI in the doubleheader.

Jordan Liester was 4 for 5 with a home run, triple and five RBI to lead Mesa to a 16-11 victory in the first game. He hit a two-run triple in the fifth and a two-run home run in the seventh. Derrick Garcia had a three-run home run in Mesa’s five-run sixth that put the Mavs ahead to stay. Dustin Robirtis picked up the victory in relief.


Women’s Lacrosse

CMU clinches No. 3 seed in tourney


Lexie Chavez and Haley Kroll each scored three goals to lead Colorado Mesa to a 12-9 victory over Adams State at Walker Field.

The Mavericks (8-6, 2-3 RMAC) finished fourth in the RMAC, but will be the third seed for the tournament this weekend.

Mesa scored the first three goals of the second half to take an 8-5 lead and held on the rest of the way.

Seniors Allie Henderson and Tayler Lansdown each scored one goal in their final home game of their career. Senior goalie Lauren Wells had six saves.


Track & Field

Sterling, Ambler win events at Mines


Bacall Sterling won the 400-meter hurdles, her first time running the event, and Cathryn Ambler took first place in the 800 to lead Colorado Mesa in the Colorado School of Mines Pre-Conference Meet.

Sterling won the 400 hurdles in 1 minute, 4.19 seconds. Ambler finished the 800 in 2:15.03, only .04 seconds off a provisional national qualifying time.

Quincey Pedersen placed second in the high jump (1.55 meters) and Tess Skoe was fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:22.92).

Jordan Hoffman led the men with a fourth-place finish in the steeplechase (10:41.45).
