CMU signs Roaring Fork twins

Colorado Mesa’s volleyball program is adding a pair of outside hitters and a setter for next season, coach Dave Fleming announced Wednesday.

Roaring Fork High School’s 6-foot twin sisters, Hattie Gianinetti and Megan Gianinetti, are joining setter Alexandra ‘Ali’ Svorinic.

“This is an exciting group,” said Fleming in a news release. “The twins, Hattie and Megan, are very athletic and have high-end physical tools. They have the potential to be very good at this level. Ali is a very good setter and she will make our gym and our hitters better from day one.”

The Gianinetti twins were two-time all-conference selections and an all-state pick this past season. Hattie was selected the Class 3A Western Slope Player of the Year in 2012.

Svorinic (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led her high school to the Arizona state semifinals and was a two-time second team All-State selection.

Sixth signing for CMU program

Colorado Mesa softball coach Candace Abrams has announced her sixth signing of her first season.

Bobbi Fry (Montesano, Wash.), an outfielder, earned all-conference honors and led Montesano High School to the Class 1A state tournament last season.

“Bobbi is a very talented young lady and will have a lot to offer this program,” Abrams said in a release. “She has the ability to be an absolute threat at the plate from the left side and in the outfield, utilizing her 5-foot-10 athletic build with speed and power. We are looking forward to having her join our 2013 class as a Maverick.”

Fry will join incoming freshmen Karissa Nickeson, Jo Bolyard, Alanna Beck, Sarah Phillis and Mariah O’Dell.
