CMU’s Bingaman tied for 7th in Texas

Colorado Mesa University golfer Brandon Bingaman tied for seventh place Monday during the first day of the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite, hosted by West Texas A&M.

Bingaman shot rounds of 70 and 71 to finish the first two rounds at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas, at 1-under-par 141, seven back of the leader.

The Mavericks as a team are 12th in the field of 17 teams with 592 strokes, while Colorado State-Pueblo holds a one-stroke lead at 569 strokes.

Colorado Mesa’s Christopher Aiken is tied for 51st at 150, while teammates Sean Robbins and Matt Weiss sit a stroke back, tied for 55th. Casey Knuepfer rounds out the Mavs’ team, tied for 62nd at 153 strokes.

Rush gets RMAC volleyball honor again

Colorado Mesa University volleyball player Megan Rush has been selected the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference defensive player of the week for the second time this season.

The 5-foot-6 senior libero from Chandler, Ariz., had 33 digs and five service aces in Colorado Mesa’s matches against Chadron State and Black Hills State last weekend.

Rush averages 5.55 digs per set and has 333 total digs, reaching double digits in digs in all but one match this season. She also has 19 service aces.

The Mavericks (13-3, 7-1 RMAC) are in first place in the RMAC West Division and face the top team in the East, Colorado School of Mines (14-4, 8-1), at 6 p.m. Friday at Brownson Arena. At 3 p.m. Saturday, the Mavericks host Colorado Christian (14-5, 5-4).
