CMU’s Burgon named RMAC 
offensive player of the week

Colton Burgon scored a career-high 30 points Saturday night in Colorado Mesa University’s 78-62 win over Western New Mexico and Monday was selected the RMAC offensive player of the week.

Burgon, a 6-foot-8 senior from Sandy, Utah, averaged 23.5 points and seven rebounds last weekend for the Mavericks (17-6, 14-5 RMAC). He had a game-high 10 rebounds on Saturday for his seventh double-double of the season. In addition, he shot 68 percent from the field and averaged 3.5 assists, including six against the Mustangs.

Burgon leads the Mavericks in scoring (16.1 points per game), rebounding (7.0) and also has 29 blocks, 28 steals and 42 assists. For the season, he’s shooting 53.7 percent from the field. The Mavericks, who are in third place in the RMAC, play at Western State on Saturday night.

30-point performances earn Mavs’ Sigl player of the week honors

Coming off her lowest-scoring game of the season, Colorado Mesa’s Kelsey Sigl dominated both New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico last weekend on the road, averaging 30.5 points and 10 rebounds a game. The 6-foot senior forward from Bismarck, N.D., was selected the RMAC offensive player of the week after back-to-back double-doubles, her first of the season.

Sigl tied her career high of 31 points in a 77-61 win Saturday at Western New Mexico the night after scoring 30 in a 92-53 victory at Highlands. She shot 69.6 percent (23 of 33) from the field last week, including a season-high 13 field goals on Saturday.

Sigl is shooting 57.8 percent this season for the No. 4 Mavericks (22-1, 18-1 RMAC) and leads the conference in scoring at 18.3 points a game. Colorado Mesa has a two-game lead on Metro State for the conference title with three games left, starting Saturday at Western State.
