CMU’s deBraga’s 4.0 GPA earns
him Academic All-America honor
Colorado Mesa free safety Trent deBraga was selected to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II team, announced Wednesday.
The junior from Fallon, Nev., made the first team with a 4.00 grade-point average in criminal justice. He was a third-team All-RMAC selection. He had 103 tackles, three interceptions and led the RMAC with a 29.1 kickoff return average.
Colorado School of Mines quarterback Clay Garcia was chosen the Academic All-American Player of the Year and first-team quarterback. The graduate posted a 3.91 GPA in material mechanics.
Chadron State offensive lineman Sean McGowan, Colorado State-Pueblo linebacker Lee Meisner and Fort Lewis punter Frank Atherton made the first team.
The 26 players (offense, defense and special teams) on the first team have a 3.84 average GPA.
Cooks’ kart driver wins race
A CRG-USA kart driver took first place in the Redbull Kart fight All-Star division race the past weekend in Orlando, Fla.
CRG-USA is owned locally by Stacey and Darren Cook.
Jan Heylen, who is an Indy Car and Champ Car driver from Belgium, was one of eight CRG-USA drivers competing in the event.
The others include five-time World Champion David Fore’, current World Champion Jonathan Thonon and NASCAR Truck series driver Cole Whitt.
The event will be televised Jan. 2 and Jan. 9. Check local listings.
Collins, Martinez place in tourney
Colorado Outlaw Club wrestlers Dawson Collins and Dylan Martinez placed in the World of Wrestling Amarillo Nationals in Amarillo, Texas, last weekend.
Collins won the 10-under, 58-pound division and Martinez placed fourth in the 12-under, 67-pound division.
