College hosts Friday Farmers’ Market

Health is not just about eating right and exercising, it encompasses everything that makes a human being happy.

That’s the message the Wellness Team at Mesa State College hopes to convey to the campus and the community through its weekly Friday Farmers’ Market.

The team is renting space to local venders to both convey their messages about whole body health and generate income to support other campus health programs.

“Health is about healthy eating but there is so much more to wellness like intellectual needs or financial health,” said Emily Sanger, manager of the Wellness and Group Fitness Recreation Center on campus.

Each week, her booth will provide information about the nine components that make a person healthy including physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social, occupational, financial and environmental well-being.

Friday the booth focused on intellectual needs by providing used paperback novels for only 50 cents.

Only three vendors were selling wares at the market Friday afternoon but Sanger said several more had reserved space for the upcoming weeks.

“It’s a slow start because of that late freeze we had,” she said.

Sellers were excited to have a new venue. “I really want to introduce my products to Mesa State students,” said Karin Traber, owner of Alpaca Products and Fiber Arts Studio.

The market will be take place every Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. ending Sept. 9.

Free parking will be available in the parking garage adjacent to the College Center on the second, third and fourth levels.
