Mesa’s Colin Prater finishes fifth
Colin Prater had the highest finish for Colorado Mesa University men’s golf team in the Troy Bledsoe Skyhawk Shootout in Palm Springs, Calif.
Prater finished with a final round 75 to move into a tie for fifth on Tuesday. He opened with rounds of 79 and 77, to finish with a 231.
As a team, the Mavs finished third with a three-round score of 961. Colorado Christian won the event with a 908, followed by Oklahoma Christian at 915.
Sam Johnson of Oklahoma Christian took first place with a three-round total of 220. Colorado Christian’s Andrew Kennedy and Minkyu Jeon finished second and third at 221 and 223, respectively.
Adam Griffith shot 84-83 to finish in a tie for 14th for the Mavs with a 240 over his three rounds. Trevor McKune shot a 247 and Trenton Schwehr 248 to place 21st and 22nd respectively.
Mesa women finish 12th in Arizona
Colorado Mesa finished 12th in Western Region Desert Shootout in the Phoenix area, competing against a high-caliber collegiate field.
St. Edwards, a Texas school, and Chico State out of California, won the event tied at 612. California Baptist was third at 618. The Mavs two-round score was 646.
The tournament was dominated by California and Texas teams, which claimed the top six spots.
Tina Yang of Cal. Baptist won with a 146, followed in second by Audra Kepler of California State-Monterey Bay at 147.
CMU’s top finishers were Sara Swaney (82-80) and Loren Forney (80-82), who both shot 162. Taylor Walters shot 81-82 for a 163, and Zoe Woodworth had the best round for CMU with an opening 79. She finished at 166.
