Mesa men finish 13th in Arizona
Colorado Mesa finished 13th in the men’s Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate tournament at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona.
With Aidan Thain shooting a final-round 69, the Mavericks rebounded from a disappointing first-round team score of 300, shooting 292 in the second round and 290 in the third for an 882.
Thain tied for 24th with a three-round total of 217. Grant Olinger tied for 26th at 218, Kyle Pearson tied for 40th (222), Brett Krantz tied for 60th (225) and Ben Nichols tied for 97th (240).
The Mavericks wrap up the fall season next week at the RMAC Fall Invitational in Durango.
Kirschner finishes 3rd at Dixie Invite
Ashlyn Kirschner finished at 4-over-par 148 on Tuesday to place third in the Dixie State Invitational, wrapping up the Colorado Mesa women’s fall season.
The junior shot rounds of 71-77 to lead the Mavericks to a fourth-place finish at Sand Hollow Golf Course in Hurricane, Utah.
Megan Liborio tied for 11th at 11-over 155 and Heather Kroll tied for 15th at 157. Naomi Yamada tied for 35th (165) and Randi Kim tied for 41st (167).
Mavs’ Perez wins RMAC award
Moshe Perez scored two goals and had one assist last weekend and was selected the RMAC offensive player of the week for the second time this season.
The junior midfielder scored the winning goal in overtime against Westminster, a 2-1 victory, then had one goal and one assist in a 3-1 victory against South Dakota Mines. Perez has 14 points this season for the Mavericks (8-1-1, 4-1-1 RMAC), which bounced up 12 spots in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Division II rankings.
After dropping out of the top 10 to No. 24 last week, the Mavericks rose to No. 12 when rankings were released Tuesday.
