Mavericks split pair of duals in Utah

The Colorado Mesa women’s tennis team defeated Dixie State (Utah) University 7-2 in its first Division II dual of the season.

Mesa (5-4) won five of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles. Shannen McNamara rallied from a set down for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3 singles. Katie Kirby won 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 at No. 6 singles.

Weber State defeated Colorado Mesa 7-2 earlier Friday in St. George, Utah.

Mesa junior Kristyn Wykert picked up one win for the Mavericks with a 6-4, 5-7, (10-6) victory over Nittaya Phonharath at No. 5 singles. Natalie Martin and Katie Kirby scored the other victory for Mesa with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
