Colorado Mesa shakes off slow start for victory

Colorado Mesa shook off a slow start and pulled away to defeat Western New Mexico 22-17 in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon at Stocker Stadium.

The Mavericks (4-2, 3-1 RMAC) won their third consecutive game for the first time since 2009.

Jake Cimolino rushed for 135 yards and moved into third on the school’s all-time rushing list. Aric Kaiser completed 11 of 24 passes for 140 yards and three touchdowns in his first game back since a knee injury in the first game of the season.

Mesa’s defense gave up 434 yards in total offense, but forced six turnovers. Three of the turnovers with interceptions.

Colorado Mesa travels to Durango next Saturday to play Fort Lewis.
