Colorado Mesa volleyball team loses to UCCS in four
Colorado Mesa University won the first game, but the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs took the next three to turn back the Mavericks in an RMAC women’s volleyball match Friday.
Colorado Mesa triumphed 25-23 in the opening game, and UCCS responded with wins of 25-20, 26-24 and 25-20. The Mavericks led the final game 16-13 before the Mountain Lions rallied for five points, four of them on Colorado Mesa attack errors, to take an 18-16 lead. UCCS led the rest of the way, and after the Mavericks pulled within 22-20, the Mountain Lions closed out the match.
The loss is the fourth in a row for the Mavericks (13-8, 7-5), who finish a three-match road swing against RMAC East Division teams today with a 4 p.m. match at Metro State University.
The Mountain Lions (15-6, 10-3) improved to 10-0 at home.
Kelly Regimbal led the Mavericks with 16 kills, and Haleigh Higgins and Christian Otzen both had 10. Jordyn Moody paced Colorado Mesa with 27 assists, and Megan Rush topped the team with 24 digs.
Nikki Kinzer was the Mountain Lions’ leader at the net, with 14 kills and 15 block assists.
