Colorado Mesa’s Sigl, Selsor honored by RMAC
Kelsey Sigl and Katrina Selsor were a good 1-2 punch last weekend for the No. 25 Colorado Mesa University women’s basketball team, which swept Western New Mexico and New Mexico Highlands.
Monday, they swept the RMAC weekly honors for the Mavericks (8-0, 4-0 RMAC).
Sigl, who averaged 18 points and 8.5 rebounds last weekend, is the conference offensive player of the week. Selsor, who averaged 16.5 points and 10 rebounds, is the defensive player of the week.
Sigl, a 6-foot senior from Bismarck, N.D., scored a season-high 19 points and tied her season high for rebounds with nine in the Mavericks’ 85-51 victory over New Mexico Highlands after scoring 17 points, 15 in the first half, against Western New Mexico, a 63-50 victory.
Selsor, a 6-1 senior from Glenwood Springs, scored 16 points with five rebounds, two steals, one blocked shot and three assists against Western New Mexico.
On Saturday, Selsor grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds, including eight offensive, to go with her 17 points against Highlands. She also had a game-high five steals and leads the Mavericks with 21 steals this season.
Sigl leads Mesa in scoring at 16.1 points per game and is shooting 61.4 percent from the field. She’s second in rebounding with 6.9 per game. Selsor is second on the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game and averages a team-high eight rebounds a game. She’s shooting 49.3 percent from the field and is second on the team with 25 assists.
With finals week, the Mavericks are off until Sunday, when they play at Fort Lewis, and Monday, when they are at Adams State. The two host schools have mid-term graduation ceremonies in their gyms this weekend, so games were pushed back from their usual Friday-Saturday schedule. After a break for Christmas, Colorado Mesa returns home Jan. 4 against Colorado Christian.
