Colorado Mesa volleyball team loses pair in Oredigger Classic
Colorado Mesa opened the season 0-2, dropping a pair of five-game matches in the Oredigger Classic in Golden.
The Mavericks lost their first match 25-18, 18-25, 15-25, 25-21, 16-14, then blew a two-game lead against St. Cloud State and lost 21-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-11.
The Huskies threw up a big block in the second match, recording 28 block assists and allowing the Mavericks to hit only .064, with 38 hitting errors and 49 kills.
Rebecca Sellers had 15 kills, Haleigh Higgins 12 and Kelly Regimbal 11 against St. Cloud. Mesa led 17-15 in the third game, but was outscored 10-1 the rest of the way and never regrouped.
The Mavericks were tied at 23-23 in the fourth game of the first match, leading 2-1, but couldn’t get the decisive points, and Billings again scored the final two points of the fifth game after the Mavs tied it at 14-14.
Regimbal had 14 kills and Higgins 12 for Mesa.
