Davis leads Palisade soccer team past Eagle Valley
Palisade High School soccer player Flannery Davis scored four goals in a 5-0 win over Eagle Valley.
Tuesday at the Peach Bowl, Davis helped turn a 2-0 halftime lead into a lopsided, shutout win.
“In the first half there was no intensity,” Palisade coach Raina Sorensen said. “After halftime, the girls came out and played with the fire they need to win this game.”
Cruz Vela scored the other goal for the Bulldogs.
Palisade finished with 20 shots.
Montrose 6, Central 0: Madison Gurule and Amanda Thoe each scored two goals for the Indians. Marina Bailey finished with 13 saves for the Warriors.
Central’s Brittany Hoppe shot an 85 to finish first in the Montrose Invitational at Cobble Creek Golf Course. Jordan Eller added a 95 to help the Warriors finish first as a team with 280 points.
Grand Junction cruised to a 17-7 win over Battle Mountain at Canyon View Park.
Santana Martinez led the Tigers with six goals. Kacie Jay and Emma LaFebre each added three goals.
The Tigers finish their regular season today at Aspen.
Aspen 14, Fruita Monument 4: The Wildcats trailed 9-3 at halftime, and couldn’t overcome the deficit. Mikayla Clark scored three goals for the Wildcats.
“We came out flat and got ourselves into a hole,” Fruita Monument coach Jamie Pietrack said. “Aspen is a very sound program.”
Jennifer Hicks finished with 12 saves for the Wildcats.
Rifle pitcher Triston Quigley threw a complete-game four-hitter for a 4-1 win over Aspen.
The Bears trailed 1-0 for the first five innings. In the sixth inning, Danny Bartels hit an RBI single to tie the game.
Cody Chick helped put the game away in the seventh inning with an RBI double.
Olathe 2-1, Roaring Fork 0-6: The Rams stayed a game ahead of the Pirates in the Class 3A Western Slope League with the split.
