Demons beat Palisade in WSL showdown

Glenwood Springs held off a furious comeback try by Palisade in the final 10 minutes to earn a big 4A Western Slope League win Thursday.

The Demons got the 2-0 win off first-half goals from Grace McSwain and Ellie Austin.

The game was a battle for second place in the WSL standings. The Bulldogs beat Glenwood (8-3, 8-2 WSL) 1-0 in the first meeting, so the Demons needed a two-goal advantage in the game to take over second place behind Battle Mountain (10-1, 9-1).

In the 76th minute, Allyson Kissell’s direct kick from about 25 yards away went high as well.

Coal Ridge 4, Central 0: Cierra Pennal scored a goal to pull Central into a 1-1 tie at the half, but Paige Ryan’s goal five minutes into the second half stood as the game-winner for the undefeated Titans (12-0) in the nonleague game.

Ryan finished with three goals, assisted by Mariela Martinez each time, and Martinez scored the final goal.

The Warriors (4-6-1) kept the score at 2-1 until the 78th minute.

Grand Valley 6, Basalt 0: The Cardinals outshot Basalt 22-2 and scored five first-half goals in the nonleague game at Basalt.
