Palisade High School bounced back from last week’s loss to Delta in a big way Friday night, routing another of the Class 3A Western Slope Conference’s top football teams, Eagle Valley, 35-7.
The victory pulled the Bulldogs into a second-place tie with Eagle Valley and Delta at 5-2 in conference play. Palisade and Eagle Valley are both 7-2 overall.
The Bulldogs scored the first touchdown of the game on a 12-yard run by Dalton Hannigan, and the Devils responded with a tying TD. But it was all Palisade after that.
Running back Caden Woods rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Luke McLean threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns, both to Levi Hoaglund, as the Bulldogs pulled away. Hoaglund finished with five catches for 101 yards.
“Our kids played with a lot of passion tonight, and that was our challenge to them,” Palisade offensive coordinator Matt Borgmann said. “We told them to play with passion and heart and have fun.”
Montrose 35, Durango 13: Angelo Youngren rushed for 174 yards and three touchdowns as Montrose defeated Durango. Mike Rocha added two rushing touchdowns for the Indians (6-3, 3-0 SWC).
