Doubles teams lift Fruita past Liberty

Fruita Monument won three of the four doubles matches to edge Liberty 4-3 in high school boys tennis Thursday.

Nick Rutan claimed the Wildcats’ win in singles, beating Matt Jacobberger 6-3, 6-3, and Fruita coach Clint Davis said Rutan “played his best tennis ever, beating a very accomplished Jacobberger.”

Fruita’s No. 3 doubles team of senior Matt Bishop and freshman Colton Reimer came back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set to win the match 6-4, 6-2.

That led Davis to say they “responded with their most inspired play of the season. They remained focused and rolled over a very solid Liberty pair.”
