Down on the farm: Locals doing well in minor leagues
Four Western Slope high school graduates are currently playing professional baseball in the minor leagues. Here is a look at how they are doing:
Kiel Roling, 1B, Tulsa Drillers: The Central High School graduate returned from the 7-day disabled list Sunday. He was 0 for 3 in his first game back with the Colorado Rockies Class 2A club. Roling is hitting .215 with three home runs and 17 RBI this season.
Shaver Hansen, SS, High Desert Mavericks: The Fruita Monument High School graduate is hitting .205 with three extra base hits and five RBI in 14 games with the Seattle Mariners Class A Advanced team. He started the season with Class A Clinton Lumberjacks and was called up May 17th.
Chris Wilson, RHP, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes: The Delta High School graduate is in extended spring training and is expected to join the San Francisco Giants’ Class A short-season team next week. He pitched for the Giants’ Class A Augusta Green Jackets last season.
Geoff Baldwin, 1B, Arizona League Royals: The Grand Junction High School graduate is in extended spring training and is expected to return to the Royals Rookie League team next week. He hit .251 with 15 extra-base hits and 21 RBI last season.
