Eagle Valley rallies past Palisade volleyball team
The Eagle Valley High School volleyball team rallied from a one-set deficit and a seven-point hole in the third set to beat Palisade 18-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-16 on Friday night.
Alexandra MacAskill had 14 kills, Reese Norton had 34 assists and seven aces and Naline Stephens added 19 digs for Palisade (7-5, 4-1 Class 4A Western Slope League), which led 21-14 in the third set before the Devils (6-4, 4-0) rallied.
Fruita Monument 3, Mead 0: Riley Snyder had 15 kills with six aces and Kenzie Wells had 30 digs to lead Fruita to a 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 victory over Mead. Dana Thomson added nine kills and Truth Hafey chipped in 37 assists for the Wildcats (10-1), the ninth-ranked team in Class 5A.
Meeker 3, Plateau Valley 0: Meeker (9-2, 4-0 Class 2A/1A WSL) won for the sixth time in their past seven matches, winning 25-13, 25-19, 25-9.
Grand Valley drove inside the 10-yard-line of the Skiers (4-0) in the fourth quarter after a lightning delay but failed to score in a 30-26 loss in Parachute. Jeff Holbrook had touchdown runs of 37, 68 and 30 yards for the Cardinals (2-2).
Rifle 35, Kennedy 23: Rifle coach Damon Wells said the Bears (3-1) got TDs from each of their running backs.
Coal Ridge 57, Olathe 26: The Titans (3-1) handed the Pirates (2-2) their second consecutive loss.
Paonia 55, Roaring Fork 0: The Eagles (3-1) won their third consecutive game after losing their opener at Centauri, outscoring their opponents 142-6 during the win streak.
Meeker 30, Monte Vista 7: Coming into the game as the second-ranked team in Class 1A, the Cowboys (4-0) remained unbeaten.
Kaitlyn Harris went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and a pair of doubles to lead Rifle’s 11-hit attack in its 8-6 home win over Basalt. Delaney Phillips and Amanda Green each went 2 for 3 for the Bears (11-3).
