Edmiston gets tryout in Seattle
Jake Edmiston didn’t get drafted by an NFL team, but the Colorado Mesa All-American linebacker received an invitation to try out with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks at next weekend’s mini-camp.
“Seattle was one of the first teams to talk to us,” Edmiston said Saturday evening. “We knew going in we could keep our eye out for something from them. It came toward the end of the draft and I got a call from them and Tampa Bay. We decided Seattle would be a better opportunity.”
Edmiston said his agent has established a working relationship with the Seahawks.
“He thinks it’s the best chance for me to make the team,” he said.
Edmiston, who took his final exams last week and will graduate next week, will leave in the next day or two for Seattle and try out as a long snapper in the mini-camp. If the Seahawks want to keep him, they can sign him to a free agent contract.
“I was just looking for the best opportunity,” Edmiston said. “I’ll get a chance to compete. I’m thankful for that opportunity. Mesa gave me a chance as a walk-on. Hopefully I’ll turn some heads and get guys to notice me.”
