Exhibits showcase work of local artists
There are two student art shows of note that are set to have receptions. Here are the details.
■ The second of two exhibits showcasing the work of 2013 graduating Colorado Mesa University senior studio art majors will be on display through Friday, May 10, at the Art Gallery at the CMU University Center.
An opening reception will be from 6–8 p.m. Friday, April 19, at the gallery.
The exhibit showcases a developed body of work from artists Rachel Carson, Allison Daugherty, Jennifer Dubois, Carrie Pedersen and Marilyn Wilcox. Pieces are figurative, abstract and functional works in oil and acrylic, photography, print making and ceramics.
Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is free.

■ The 50th annual Altrusa Art Fair for middle and high school students will be on display Saturday through Friday, April 20–26, at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.
The students’ artwork will be judged by local artists and awards given for first, second and third places, best of show from the judges and a best of show from the Altrusans.
A special reception for all previous winners, judges and teachers who have participated in the art fair over the past 50 years is planned for 6–8 p.m. Friday, April 19.
The student receptions and slide shows for this year’s show will be Saturday, April 20. The middle school event will be at 11:30 a.m., the high school event at 1 p.m. Each student slide show will feature the winners and include comments by the judges.
