Baseball and hotdogs — it’s a little slice of Americana.

That’s what fans will get at the concession stands at Suplizio Field during Grand Junction Rockies games this season.

The Rockies are not allowing outside food and drink at their ballgames this season, in accordance with Minor League Baseball rules. After an early dustup when fans were not allowed to bring in their own water during the exhibition game, the club revised that to allow fans to bring in one sealed bottle of water per person.

There is a drinking fountain at the stadium, north of the concession area. It’s behind the home plate area, near the restroom on the northwest side of the concourse.

The stadium fare will be simple, and everything will be sold at the main concession stand in the concourse, except for opening night and July 4. For those games, a large grill under the third-base stands will serve hotdogs, brats and burgers, with beer (in aluminum cans) and soft drinks at a vending station to help accommodate the large crowds.

“We’re not going to have a huge variety of items, and you won’t see vending carts like at JUCO,” Rockies General Manager Tim Ray said. “We’re going to keep it simple, but our responsibility is to make sure the beer is cold and the hotdogs are hot. We’ll have hotdogs, Polish sausage, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, French fries. Our peanuts will be warm, roasted peanuts in a brown paper bag for two bucks.”

Wienerschnitzel is the “official” hotdog of the GJ Rockies, which is featuring “Wiener Wednesdays,” with the original Wienerschnitzel hotdogs $1 each.

Soft-serve ice cream cones are $1 every day, and Ray said the club tried to keep prices affordable for families to enjoy a night at the ballpark.

The concession stands take cash and credit cards — no personal checks.
