Fire FC hosts Grand Mesa Invite soccer tournament this weekend
The Grand Mesa Invitational youth soccer tournament is “as big as we can get it right now,” said Fire FC director Shaun Howe, as the local club soccer organization prepares to host 138 teams from four states this weekend.
Teams from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico — with age brackets ranging from under-10 to under-19 — will compete at Canyon View Park and Long Family Park starting Saturday.
Howe said the weekend-long tournament is the organization’s largest revenue-generator. Fire FC is currently in the planning stages of a 17,000-square-foot indoor soccer complex near Horizon Drive and is working to expand its footprint in Grand Junction. Howe added that the tournament will likely be able to use the football fields at Canyon View Park next year, allowing further expansion for the tournament.
“We’re really excited about the tournament this year,” Howe said. “It’s pretty big already, but we’re looking to grow.”
Games begin at 8 a.m. each day with older age brackets playing largely at Long Family Park and younger divisions at Canyon View Park.
