Former coach hired to lead Junction girls program

A former Fruita Monument and club coach will coach the Grand Junction High School girls swimming team this winter.

Mesa County School District 51 adaptive physical education teacher Janet Ryan was named the head coach today. She replaces Dale Leonhart, who resigned a month ago to pursue other opportunities.

Ryan has coached swimming teams in some capacity for 19 years. She was involved with the club teams in Grand Junction, Meeker and Craig and started the Grand Valley Wave program in 1993. She coached the Fruita Monument boys and girls swimming teams from 1988 to 1991 before resigning to spend time with her children.
