Fruita, Delta split DH June 28, 2013

Fruita’s bats were hot in a Game 1 victory, but Delta pitcher Keaton Reiher cooled them off in Game 2 as the teams split a U-18 summer baseball doubleheader Friday.

Fruita collected 13 hits and clubbed Delta 10-1 in the opener. Sam Graf led the charge with three hits, while Luke Goodrich, Gabe Treider and Chad Goodrich each had two hits and two RBI. Dante Duran added two hits and a sacrifice.

Fruita pitcher Colton Chamberlain pitched the first five innings to earn the win, limiting Delta to two hits while striking out five.

Fruita started the nightcap strong, getting a two-run double from Treider in the first inning, but Reiher threw a scoreless final six innings as Delta won 4-2.

“He changed speeds nicely, had good control. He certainly threw a lot of strikes,” Fruita coach Ray McLennan said of Reiher. “We had some hard-hit balls, but their defense made some nice plays. Hat’s off to them.”

Reiher gave up five hits, only two after the first inning, walked two batters and struck out four.

Dylan Row added a double for Fruita.
