Fruita falls to 1-2 in loss to Heritage

Wildcats draw to within 8 but fall short at end of game


Heritage defeated Fruita Monument (1-2) in a nonconference football game Friday night.

Heritage kicked a 32-yard field goal early in the second half to go ahead 24-8.

Fruita Monument’s Jake Lynch connected with Aiden Woomer to set up a Lynch four-yard touchdown run. Woomer’s two-yard run to complete the two-point conversion brought the Wildcats within eight points with three minutes remaining in the game.

Fruita attempted an on-side kick, but Heritage recovered and converted two first downs for the victory.

Buena Vista 18, Hotchkiss 15

Koby Close of Buena Vista rushed for 98 yards against Hotchkiss, and Daniel Carr led the Demons defense with three sacks.

Grand Valley 38, Paonia 13

Tyler Scott of Grand Valley connected with Jacob White for a 35-yard touchdown pass, the longest of four first-quarter touchdowns for the Cardinals. White also had a 26-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to complete the scoring.
