Fruita, GJ in same softball regional

Fruita Monument received the eighth overall seed and will host the Region 2 softball tournament Saturday at Kronkright Complex, with Grand Junction in the same tournament.

The Wildcats (16-3) are the top seed in the four-team regional and play Rangeview (13-6) at 10 a.m. On the adjacent field, Grand Junction (16-3), seeded No. 24 overall, plays No. 9 Ralston Valley (13-6). The first-round winners play for a qualifying spot at 12:30 p.m., with the first-round losers playing at 12:30. The winner of the losers’ bracket game faces the loser of the winners’ bracket game for the second spot in the state tournament. That game is set for 3 p.m.

Admission to the tournament is $7 for adults, $5 for students K-12 and senior citizens. Only CHSAA passes will be honored.

Montrose (11-8) received the 19th seed and will play in the Region 5 tournament hosted by No. 3 seed Windsor (15-3-1). The Indians drew No. 14 seed Niwot (11-8) in the first round. Delta (9-8) received the No. 29 seed and will play at No. 4 seed D’Evelyn (15-4) in the Region 4 tournament at Barnes Complex in Loveland.
