Fruita sweeps Durango in DH

Fruita Monument swept Durango in a doubleheader Wednesday, winning 18-2 and 23-6.

The games were continued after weather suspended the doubleheader during the first game last weekend at Little Salt Wash Park.

The 23 runs the Wildcats (7-11, 4-3 Southwestern League) scored against the Demons (7-8-1, 0-6) in the second game marks the highest single-game run total since the season-opener in 2015, when the Fruita defeated Hinkley 38-0.

The Wildcats finish their regular-season schedule 7 p.m. tonight against Grand Junction at Bergman Field.

Rifle 15, Palisade 6: The Bears (14-4, 7-1 4A Western Slope League) won for the eighth time in their past 10 games with a victory over the Bulldogs (5-14, 2-6).

Rifle scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a tie and was led Kaitlyn Harris, who finished 2 for 4 with a home run, a double and two RBI.
