Fruita wins Southwestern League softball title
Fruita Monument were forced to go extra innings, but prevailed to defeat Central 9-8 in eight innings at Kronkright Complex and win the Southwestern League title.
The Wildcats (16-3, 9-1 SWL) scored six runs in the third inning to tie the game only to see Central score two in the top of the seventh and force extra innings. Mariah O’Dell came through with a RBI single to win it in the bottom of the eighth.
Fruita clinched a Class 5A regional tournament berth with the victory.
