Fruita’s Dangler, GJ’s Kinnaman selected to CHSAA all-state golf team
A pair of Mesa County golfers were selected to the Colorado High School Activities Association’s all-state team Thursday.
Troy Dangler of Fruita Monument and Donny Kinnaman of Grand Junction were both selected to the Class 5A team. Both golfers tied for seventh at the state tournament in the fall.
Dangler, a sophomore, opened the tournament with a disappointing 78 but rebounded with a 69 to record only one of three sub-70 rounds in the tournament.
Kinnaman, a junior for the Tigers, was consistent throughout the season and shot 75-72 at state.
The all-state teams were selected by CHSAA, ColoradoPreps.com and MaxPreps.
At the 4A level, two Western Slope golfers made the list: Trevor Bogus of Durango and Jakob Rudosky of Montezuma-Cortez.
Tristan Rohrbaugh of Basalt, who won the 3A state title, and Clayton Crawford for Aspen were the lone Western Slope representatives in Class 3A.
Palisade Greta VanCalcar capped a strong sophomore season with a fifth place at the Class 4A and was selected to the all-state team. She also won the Tiger Invitational earlier in the season.
Two seniors led Hotchkiss to its second straight Class 2A state cross-country team title this fall and the pair were recognized with all-state honors on Thursday.
Natalie Anderson and Jennifer Celis placed second and fourth, respectively, at the state meet.
Anderson will run for Western State Colorado next year and Celis plans to run for Oklahoma State.
Paonia senior Taylor Polson was also selected to the 2A all-state team. She placed fifth at state and helped lead the Eagles to a fourth-place finish in the team competition.
At the 3A level, Eva Lou Edwards of Bayfield was selected as the runner of the year in the classification after winning the state title. She also won the Anna Banana Invitational in Grand Junction this fall.
