Gene Taylor’s rallies past Durango in Pueblo

Gene Taylor’s scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to rally past the Durango Thunder, 6-4, in American Legion baseball Saturday in Pueblo.

Durango scored all of its runs in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead.

Tristan Lafferty singled in a run to start the scoring for Gene Taylor’s in the sixth, and Kameron Pfaff doubled him in to tie the game. Tanner Denton singled Pfaff home. Then, Cole Cummins, pinch running for Denton, stole second base and scored the final run on a single by Marcus Wirth.

Winning pitcher Casey Burns surrendered leadoff hits in the sixth and seventh, but he allowed no other base runners and ran his record to 2-0. Burns went the distance, allowed seven hits, struck out five and walked two.

Lafferty and Drew Bridges paced Gene Taylor’s 10-hit attack, each going 2 for 4. Lafferty drove in two runs, and Bridges scored twice. Burns hit a triple.

Gene Taylor’s (5-5) concludes its Pueblo trip today with a game against a team to be announced.
