GJ Rockies beat Ogden
Jairo Rosario and Jose Briceno hit home runs to lead the Grand Junction Rockies to a 6-3 win over the Ogden Raptors on Sunday.
With the score tied at 2-2, Rosario put the Rockies up for good with a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Correlle Prime walked and scored ahead of Rosario’s home run.
William Waltrip picked up the win for Grand Junction with a solid outing.
The Rockies’ reliever didn’t allow a hit or a run and struck out three in his three innings of relief.
Grand Junction starter Manuel Montilla pitched four innings, giving up two earned runs. Scott Firth pitched two innings for his third save of the year.
Trailing 2-1 in the sixth, Briceno tied the score with a solo home run, which was his ninth of the season.
Rosario picked up this third RBI of the game in the ninth on a sacrifice fly.
The Rockies’ final run came when Ryan Garvey doubled with two outs in the ninth to score Prime, who had singled.
The Rockies (35-41, 14-24) played solid, error-free defense with Waltrip and Prime teaming up for a double play.
Briceno and Garvey each had two hits for Grand Junction.
The Rockies had eight hits on the game and left only three runners on base.
Ogden (36-40, 16-22) scored single runs in the second, third and ninth innings.
