GJ Rockies can’t slow Chukars’ hot bats

Idaho Falls scored in each of the first seven innings Friday night, shutting out Grand Junction until the Rockies put up five runs in the ninth in a 16-5 rout.

Grand Junction (34-34, 16-14 second half), which is three games behind Ogden with only eight games to play in the second half, got home runs by Ramon Marcelino, Jeff Moberg and Brett Stephens in the ninth for its only offense.

Jeffri Ocando (5-4) allowed nine runs on 10 hits in only 2 2/3 innings to put the Rockies in a huge hole.

Stephens went 2 for 5 in the leadoff spot, a last-minute change when Shael Mendoza, who has missed most of the past week with a wrist injury, was a late scratch. Marcelino also had two of GJ’s 10 hits.
