GJ Rockies hit five HRs in victory

Casey Golden launched two of the Grand Junction Rockies’ five home runs Thursday night in an 11-5 win over Missoula.

Golden laced a three-run home run in the fifth inning, then added a solo shot to center field during his next at-bat in the seventh inning.

Kennard McDowell hit the first home run of the night, cutting into Missoula’s 2-0 lead with a solo shot in the top of the third inning. Jeff Moberg tied it 2-2 with his home run in the fifth.

Golden drove in the next four runs before Grand Junction scratched out a few more.

After Grand Junction went up 7-2 on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, Missoula got two runs back in the bottom of inning. An RBI single from McDowell in the eighth inning started a rally, but he was cut down on a fielder’s choice. Joey Bartosic singled to put runners on the corners and Golden’s sacrifice fly brought home another run, his fifth RBI of the night.

Chad Spanberger ripped a two-run home run to put Grand Junction up 11-4, putting the game out of reach.
