GJ Rockies limited to 3 hits in loss

The Grand Junction Rockies offense was shut down and Orem took advantage Friday night.

Orem limited the Rockies to only three hits and went on to an 11-1 home victory.

The Rockies were held hitless until the fifth inning when Chad Spanberger hit a solo home run to cut the Orem lead to 5-1.

Simon Mathews struck out seven Grand Junction hitters and reliever Jason Alexander fanned another six for Orem.

Anderson Amarista pitched well for two innings but gave up five runs in the third inning.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Rockies, who had won seven of their past eight before Friday’s loss.

The Rockies will open a four-game homestand against Orem today.
