GJ Rockies rally for win

Zach Osborne of Grand Junction makes a throw to first base for an out against Billings on Wednesday.

The Grand Junction Rockies rallied for three runs in the eighth to pull out a come-from-behind 5-4 win over Billings on Wednesday night.

Trailing 3-2 going into the top of the eighth, The Rockies used three extra-base hits to mount the rally. Jose Briceno walked and Jordan Patterson ripped a double to center to put two runners on. Then Correlle Prime lashed a two-run triple to right-center to give Grand Junction a 4-3 lead. Prime later scored on Jario Rosario’s double for the Rockies’ fifth run.

Billings scored a run in the ninth but Dylan Stamey shut down the rally with two strikeouts and a groundout to pick up the save for Grand Junction. Carlos Estevez had a powerful outing, striking out five and not allowing a hit in his 2 1/3 innings of relief work to pick up his first win of the season.

Trailing 3-0, the Rockies got back into the game with two runs in the sixth on a two-run double by Ryan McMahon that scored Osborne and Briceno.

Osborne had three hits and Briceno scored a pair of runs for the Rockies.

Ben Lively, a fourth-round draft pick for the Cincinnati Reds, continued his strong rookie season for Billings. He pitched three shutout innings, giving up three hits and striking out three. He hasn’t given up an earned run this season.
